Portmore since its existence … … The Portmore estate was built by Scottish colonel Thomas David colyear of British Army in the second half of 19th Century. He was the son of Earl of Portmore who resided here for a while. Therefore, It is named as a Portmore. When Shimla became summer capital of India in 1864, The Portmore estate was rented to Govt. of India to house the office of “Quarter Master General’ of military department. This office was later shifted to newly constructed Army Headquarters in 1884. In the early 20th century, it was made nursing home. This place is still visited by many Europeans who were born here during British Rule.
